Well, it's been a hell of a ride, but after 10 years of trackside photography it's time to put the trusty Canon's into retirement. As many of you will know for the last three years I have been battling Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (or ME as most people know it). Whilst I have made good progress I have found that I can only be trackside with the camera's for an hour or two before having to rest. For someone that has been used to being there from the first pair down the track to the last pair this is horribly frustrating. The hours spent in front of the PC processing files hasn't helped me either. I have been very fortune to spend some time crewing with my good friends Pat and Stephen Talbot during the 2009 season and have found that lets me stay involved with the sport, but without making myself ill. So with all that in mind now seems like the right time to step aside from the photography. It wouldn't be right to leave without acknowledging some of the people who have made the 10 last years possible, so in no particular order a big thanks go out to Caroline, Kelly and Jo at Santa Pod, Sue from the SPR press office, Jerry and Julie at Shakey, Roger Gorringe, the marshalls at all the tracks I have photographed at, Ian and Paula Marshall and of course the racers out there. Particular thanks go to my good buddy Tog, to Helen and Dean Smythe and of course to Pat and Stephen Talbot. I'll leave you with my favourite shot, which for me captures everything that makes Drag Racing such a spectacular sport to watch; Havoc doing what Altereds do best! |
